J-SAFE
EN13374 Work at Height Regulations

The Work at height Regulations 2005 apply to all work at height where there is a risk of a fall liable to cause personal injury.

They place duties on anyone who controls the work of others to work at height to the extent they control the work and must do all that is reasonably practical to prevent anyone falling.

The regulations set out a simple hierarchy for managing and selecting equipment for work at height.

What is Collective Protection?

Collective Protection is equipment which can protect more than one person and, once properly installed or erected, does not require any action by them to make sure it will work.

A Temporary Edge Protection System is a Collective Protection measure. Collective measures have several advantages.
They are easier to use, protect everyone at risk in the work area and need less effort in terms of maintenance and user training.

Design criteria for Temporary Edge Protection Systems compliant with BS EN 13374 Class A

J-SAFE Temporary Edge Protection System on Steel Structure - Newcastle 1

The J-SAFE Proprietary Temporary Edge Protection System (TEP) is a Collective Fall Prevention System that provides significant benefits over traditional tubular or timber guard railing methods.

A collective system must provide protection to a flat surface with a maximum slope up to 10 degrees. it provides resistance to static loads and must provide support to a person leaning against, walking beside and possibly stumbling against it.

The fundamental component of the
J-SAFE Temporary Edge Protection System is the Standard barrier which is manufactured from high strength, close centered steel mesh, with an integrated steel toe-board permanently attached to the bottom section.

The Standard barrier provides material containment, compliant with BS EN 13374 Class A, which states that a sphere of 250mm diameter must not pass through the edge protection system.

The simplicity of the J-SAFE Temporary Edge Protection System means that it can be installed, adjusted and removed by non-specialist operatives.

A range of instruction options are provided to each user including site based toolbox talks, design drawings and instruction manuals.
